We recently got an update from the organisation ZEITGUT in Switzerland. The family project, supported by the Biltema Foundation, started well. First of all, a Pilot study is being conducted. The main focus of the project is on godparenthood for families with kids and working parents. Whenever a child gets sick and can’t go to nursery school, or school, the godparents step in to look after them. Therefore ZEITGUT set up this model to ensure care is being provided to the kids. Beginning of January 2017, work with the first two pilot families started. Together with the families ZEITGUT worked out a profile for the godparents. Afterwards a leaflet for promotion of the project was created, including the advertisements for godparents written by the kids from the pilot families.
One main finding was the difficulties to find godfathers. It turned out that finding godmothers was much easier, but one of the two families were looking for a godfather.
In April a third family applied for the project: a single parent mom, with two kids. The application process is already over and discussions with potential godparents are planned.
After realising the potential godparents are afraid of being tied to their new tasks, ZEITGUT set up a team of three people who can step in, in case the godparents are not able to fulfil their task.
Until summer 2017, ZEITGUT will support the families and their godparents to monitor the project. It is planned to open up the project to the ZEITGUT community and the local families by the end of August.
